The Great Workshop Build - Day 7
Nov 2, 12:13 AM
Sunday 30th October, 2005
I didn’t start until the afternoon, but made excellent progress… I continued with the cladding that we’d got so far with yesterday and within no time at all had completed the front as far as the apex.

At this point things slowed down a little as I had to manually cut the angle for the apex out of the boards and my tools are not all together at the moment, so I ended up doing it manually (using my excellent pull-saw) – however it was still hard work and slow.

With the clocks going back last night, I ended up fighting against the oncoming darkness and so did not entirely complete the front (there is a small area at the top of the apex), so this will now have to wait until two weeks time when I will have some more time to complete the outstanding tasks.

I most certainly feel a great sense of accomplishment, having started with a blank space, a pile of wood and some tools and now I almost have a fully working workshop/storage space. I really cannot wait to complete this project so I can start the next one – which will be created “in” the workshop!!
For reference, the outstanding tasks are now:
External
- Cover the roof with underlay and fit felt shingles
- Finish cladding the front
- Finish cladding the rear, leaving out the space for the new window I have decided to install
- Install a “frame” around the window to house the glass
- Hang the door and install the glass
- Paint
Internal
- Install electrical sockets, lights etc.
- Fit insulation
- Cover insulation with boarding to form an internal “skin”
- Build a new bench
- Install shelving, racking etc.
Next update to follow in about 2 weeks…
