The Great Workshop Build - Day 6

Saturday 29th October, 2005

Phew! All this outdoor working is really tiring me out! I’m usually used to being a desk-jockey with the occasional trip down to a server room (however, the temperature in the office can vary drastically – from Bahamas like heat to Moscow cold – depending on the time of day), so hence my lateness in posting the last few days updates.

With the roof boarded, it was left to finish the cladding on all sides. Having given myself a headache the day prior because of all the nailing and hammering whilst fixing the cladding I decided yesterday evening to go and see if I could procure something that would make the job a lot easier – a power nailer!

I scooted off to the local B&Q as I had recently seen an offer on a smallish compressor and there was a nailer hanging around it, the downside was the compressor probably would not be able to do the other things I wanted it for (paint spraying and stuff) as it did not have a high enough airflow output (and the nailer would only take 32mm brads maximum), however, I did find an electric nailer that although it too would only cope with 32mm nails would be a lot cheaper than the compressor/nailer combo and then I could get a better compressor later when I have more time to find a good price/performance ratio.

So armed with my new toy tool I set about fixing up the cladding – boy, did this make a difference! Although it took a little time to get used to it (I had early twinges of disappointment, but realised I needed to put more pressure behind it) I was soon fixing up the cladding like it was going out of fashion.

Workshop - Back wall coming along

Clive came down early in the afternoon and between us we soon finished off the two sides (having completed the back that morning), but time and light had caught up with us and after a discussion on leaving part of the rear apex unclad (to act as a window) we cleared up for the day.

Workshop - Now the left...

Workshop - And the right - complete! Is that a would-be squatter lurking there?

I have got myself a beach hut now!
